The old adage goes at UPS.

A part time job at UPS is a full time job in real life.
A full time job at UPS, is an all the time job.
I was a delivery driver for 2 years, and yes that was VERY MUCH "all the time job", you end up bleeding Brown at that point. Interested in keeping my foot in the door by part-time sort or loader, sounds like that wont work with an unknown reserve schedule. I couldnt promote from driver to pilot, so i left and to go get my PIC turbine Part 121 time

What hotel do we stay at during training? Is it a suite with a kitchen or just a regular old room? Is it close by to anything? How about a fitness center? Do we get weekends off and if so, what are we allowed to do on our weekends (I remember reading that going home isn't an option)?
Any thoughts would be great!

I wonder how many of us ex-Comair guys will be in that class. You're the 3rd one I know of so far.

We stayed at the staybridge in the Nov 3rd Class. It was a suite and had a full size fridge and microwave as well as a burner but no stove. There was a green mill restaurant and dairy right across the street. About two blocks away was a Target and a Cub Foods. You will get weekends off in ground school, and two days off when you go to sims. You can go home on the weekends but it takes about a month to get you into CASS, and if you don't make it back on time, you better look for a new job.

OK, does anyone know why someone who's applied..but not received an actual interview would receive a letter at their house saying "thanks but no thanks"?

I've never heard of this before, unless of course you've actually interviewed with said company. The letter basically said "we have other applicants with more attractive qualifications" (let it be known that he and I have almost identical backgrounds and flying experience).

So I have heard there is animosity among Mesaba pilots because some ex-Comair folks believe they were furloughed and therefore lost seniority because of Mesaba. So the Comair newhires are sour towards more senior Mesaba pilots.

I honestly am not trying to start anything. But if thats true it's rediculous. I made some friends with Comair pilots in my interview.

Just curious if something so childish is true? or b.s.

Like Jesrober said above, we (Nov. 3rd) stayed at the Staybridge Suites. Some have gotten the Homestead Suites in the past (horror stories from most people). Saturdays and Sundays are off during ground school. During sim training, any two consecutive days off dependent on your schedule. They advise to not go home on the weekends because of the possibility of not making it back in time. I went back and forth during ground school and even now w/ sims and it never was an issue as long as I checked the loads the day of. You can still jumpseat on other airlines as long as you have your company ID. CASS is not required unless physically occupying the cockpit jumpseat. I think it's a misconception that CASS is required to "jumpseat" on other carriers with reciprocal agreements. However it IS nice to have in case the cabin is completely full. That's never been the case for me including the day after Thanksgiving out of LGA.

As far as fitness center, the Staybridge has a really ****ty fitness room with a couple of treadmills and a really old pecs and legs machine. There's no squat rack, dumbells (well, only 5 lbs) or anything of that nature. There is a local YMCA, but if you don't have a car to get there, you're SOL. The hotel provides a free YMCA pass. It's located ten minutes by car. Any other questions, feel free to PM.

I hope not. That sounds like its pretty dumb if thats true. Most of the XJ flying was awarded long before Delta took over. Comair started furloughing a while ago. If there are some comair guys that are upset about their situation, they can stay put and wait for their recall. There is no need to bring a bad attitude to mesaba. I think that all of us welcome comair guys to mesaba and hope they enjoy working here.

Exactly. I agree.
