I doubt that being pretty has much to do with it. The underlying cause is that any company that does business with the federal government has to implement quotas. Most airlines do at least one of these things: Carry gov/military pax, carry mail, participate in CRAF, carry cargo for fed/military.
There are requirements that such businesses either meet specific quotas or, failing that, have an agressive program to improve their numbers.
Since there are physically not enough female/minority pilots to come anywhere to meeting the quotas, many companies are on a perpetual quest to show that they are trying really, really hard.
BTW, if you have an opportunity that others don't because of your gender or race, by all means take that opportunity! You'd be silly not to, and I'm sure any of us would do the same.
But don't be like the former FO at my regional who recently got hired at the local major with 15% of the normal competetive minimums...then came back to the regional crewroom talking sh*t....everybody knew why she got hired ahead of thousands of more qualified applicants, and it wasn't because of her phenominal aviation abilities...
I don't care what you look like, or what you are. As long as you have a good personality that's capable of conversation (when allowed), don't have to have the last word, have a sense of humor and don't smell I'd like to fly with you.
Personally, I like learning about other cultures, upbringings, places, etc. One of the reasons I took this career path.
If a girl wants to be a pilot let her. But I think you dont see many girl pilots because a lot of girls just dont want to be pilots. As for always seeming like they are in problems thats just because they are over scrutinzed. But in the same breath I've seen girls just plainly get what they want damn the circumstances. Ive been bumped outa my flights before because a female CFI had decided its more important for her student to fly and when I went to complain all I got was "shes a girl get used to it."
And that leads me to think girls either get it easier or harder it just depends on who they need something from.

Every group................and I mean every group has their 10% dirtbags.
No group has that market cornered,:
Mordi: please keep your posts less personal. Generalizations work, you don't have to single out people and bad mouth them. Your Mother should have told you "if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all". We all know who you are talking about, and I may not disagree, but it was uncalled for on a public forum such as this.
You right, might get in trouble for talking about "her". God forbid anyone tell it like it is!!
If I am making it up, then there is nothing to worry about. With no names mentioned, no harm done. Besides, I stuck up for our other female pilots.
This thread is growing quick... did someone open up a can of worms??

Delta airlines, a DOD carrier refused to knuckle under to the threats of the EEOC or Affirmative action groups during the 80s as United the greatest offender, did. The minorites they hired were and still qualified cockpit crewmembers.
I can't make claims to any additional training provided to certain individuals so as to meet the airline requirements and satisfy the EEOC and AA organizations. Only employees of those airlines can make such claims.
Let affirmative action, a disservice to unqualified minorities, and qualified individuals alike, enjoy a long death.
I'm going to take issue with this post:
It's because of affirmative action that people like me have the opportunity to fly jets and run airports. It is because of people like you, (based on the statement you made) that has cost this country economically, socially and politically over the years. This country has failed to develop its human, intellectual and labor capital to its fullest; thus the many problems we face.
If this country would have solved its racial and women suffrage issues long ago, can you image where this country would be in terms of economic and political stability? Also, we would be having this conversation, now would we?

Take all the issues you desire. I had to earn my positions in aiation the old fashion way. You must be very proud of yourself to have been employed for your suffrage experienced rather than qualification. That's something I would love to brag about.
