The FADEC turns on the ignition(A or B, we never know) when the thrust lever is moved out of shutoff into the idle position. IT will also turn on the ignition if the N2 drops below a certain value to relight the engine.

As for the 70/90 rolling at idle...it will. Especially when empty.

Both airlines I have worked for allowed runups at the gate....not that, that is either here nor there.

She activated the start system to "motor" the engine, and it went to high power? I assume there's no button for this, and so the thrust lever must not have been at idle. Still, isn't there a separate switch to control the fuel supply to the engine? How did she inadvertently start the engine?
You can start the engines with the power levers at Idle on the 700/900. Because of the auto ignition it just won't light till you have >20%N2 and ITT is <120.
Basically you can sit in the airplane when it is shut down, put the thrust levers in the idle position, hit the start button and then the airplane will start the engine all on its own. If you get a hot start it will shut down.
So what i think would have happened is that the mechanics told her to go up there to dry motor the engine for a minute so they can check the oil. You must dry motor it to get an accurate reading. Just for 30 sec or a min. Someone must have left the throttle in Idle and the parking brake must have been off before she did what she did.

OK, what's with the "young mechanic" line? How about "new-hire mechanic" or "mechanic trainee" or "hot young blonde mechanic"? What is the reporter trying to insinuate?

I'm also trying to imagine what the phrase "hurling the fragile aircraft at 90 degree angles" means.

Is that 90 degrees in yaw, pitch, or bank? and how many "angles" did the fragile aircraft hurl before the hurling stopped?

maybe it means the airplane bounced off all four walls?

Default Sorry about that

To those who were participating in the original "ASA in Baton Rouge" thread - sorry for the duplicate! I've merged the "5 Seconds - $100 Million: ASA" thread with this one.

Yes there is photo's around, look for them. ASA mang. is monitoring this, A.net, and other sites for these post so they can have them removed.

-And yes ASA mang. DOES have a say so because it was on their property.
