If you were applying in Detroit you are about 2 degrees overqualified. I think they only hire you if your highest education was middle school graduate. I can't stand riding the crew bus with them... I feel like I need to shower again just by being on the same bus.
I hear ya, man. And I applied from Beaumont, TX back then, and I think the preferences allowed me to choose which airport I would prefer, but I checked the "willing to relocate" box. Either way, worthless. Like the TSA itself.

If they hire people who use their minds, then the whole system goes down. They want mindless drones who follow every command without question.
If anyone with thinking power worked there then they'd start wondering why do people have to take off their shoes? Does mustard on a turkey sandwich constitute a liquid or a gel? Is it really necessary for the guy who flies the plane to remove his computer from his luggage?
Next time you go through security ask someone why computers need to be removed from their bags to be put through the x-ray. I'm willing to bet nobody has an answer. In the 10 times or so that I've asked nobody has been able to give me a reason. They just do what they are told.

It has a lot of space, and, typical laptop bags have a lot of wires/metal that can confuse the issue.
There are security "friendly" bags out there that will allow you to run it through w/out removal.
But, ultimately, hidden/concealed weapons are why it's done the way it's done. Same time, if I can keep the shoes on while going through security, carry a bottle of water, full size tube of toothpaste, can't think of a reason that I shouldn't be trusted w/ the laptop
Although highly unlikely, I would love for the TSA and Homeland Security to go away. Let's really look at this, what is the TSA stopping that wasn't being stopped prior to 9/11. Oh yeah knives/box cutters, wait those were legal back then. A simple solution would have been to keep everything the same and not allow those items, plus the shoes and liquids if needed. But the reallity is that they are a HUGE waist of tax dollars.
What do you think will happen today if four people from the middle east got up with guns to try an take over a flight? It will make the California looting of the 90's seem dosile to what will happen to these people. Mentality has changed about hijacked flights and we need not speend all this monely or loose all our freedoms, just to please the stupid masses.
And on a final note, let's quit being so politically stupid nice and quit harrasing grandma, we need to profile, it worked in the 70's and really well, and guess what if you are from the Middle East and a law aviding citizen/guest, suck it up and quit complaining if you are pull aside everytime. It is people from that area of the world causing harm, not our fault so deal with it. Leave poor old ladies alone until such group decides to hijack airplanes. It's the dumbest thing I've seen.

TSA is hard at trying to justify their useless existance.

So what's your proposed plan for security then? Get rid of x-ray machines and metal detectors and just pull people of Middle Eastern origin aside? Christians, Catholics and even Buddhists have all committed terrorist attacks within the last century as well. I do agree with you that most terrorist groups are likely not planning an attack involving aviation, not due to being deterred by the TSA, but because everyone would be anticipating that. I have plenty of gripes about the TSA myself, but it seems like you're suggesting we don't need them because of the revolt that would ensue after an attempted hijacking? I agree as well profiling works, but you need to go beyond just a persons ethnicity.

To All Flight Crewmembers, We have had a couple of incidents reported in which a TSA employee has requested that crewmembers carry liquids or other items through a security check point for a passenger or other employee. Obviously this would be a violation of security protocol and none of our crewmembers have complied with the request. The TSA does not have a policy of testing crewmembers in this manner. If you are approached by any person requesting you to take an item through security, it should be reported to the on duty chief pilot immediately. If it is not TSA or Security Personnel that approaches you, you should report it to the TSA, Airport Police or a GSC before calling the chief pilot. Your report should include the airport name, which checkpoint, a description of the individual and if possible, the name of the individual.
