Ramper is Saskatoon handed me a bright-orange vest to wear on my way out for the walk-around. I said "no thanks, I'm American..." That was the end of that.

I'm not even wasting the energy to complain about it, so you just have to say no...

I saw catering pulling up to my airplane today when I was doing the preflight and the idiot was talking on a cell phone.... Seems like at least once every two weeks an ATR in DFW gets hit by ground equipment.

As far as getting my vest I will wait until the last day. I think it's a dumb idea. With the way some people drive on the ramp a stupid vest isn't going to keep them from hitting you. Airplanes get hit on a regular basis! The simple solution is to just keep your head on a swivel out there, the ramp can be a very dangerous place and let the laws of natural selection play out for those that don't open their eyes.

P.S. I bet the real reason behind it is to help staffing. If you have to wear an orange vest on the ramp it's easier to spot you on the way out the turnstile to escape from being extended. That or it forces you to go up the jetbridge!

What does your nationality have to do with it? No wonder Americans are hated everywhere.... When in Rome, do as the Romans do.. It's their country.....

FWIW,

An Eagle Saab captain was been bounced by a tug in DFW. An Emery captain was run over by a forklift and had both legs amputated.

Brown pilots are all issued a reflective vest. I think it just gives the drivers something to aim for since a couple have been tagged anyway.

Most important point in wearing the vest, what happens to your workman comp if you are injured while not wearing one when it is required by the company?

So when the airport authority or Transport Canada fine the airline for non-compliance, they'll just payroll deduct it from you?
