For you guys sitting in the SKYW pool, this Fall will be telling for next year. This is just my opinion, keep hanging in the pool. I believe that we will be the first company to start hiring again. Those of us already with the company want to see that just as much as you guys.

Heck, I’ve even tossed around the idea of going back to CR9 FO in ATL just so I can stop commuting. I have more than enough TPIC and I just want to be home more after my second kid is born. But, if I voluntarily downgrade I’m seat locked for 1 year and that's unacceptable in my mind. What I’m leaning towards is remaining an EMB CA and dropping one of my 4 – 4 day trips every month which would give me my 18-19 days off and my pay would still be equal to that of an RJ FO. Plus I'd still be padding my logbook with TPIC.

What I want is a transition to ATL CRJ CA but I'm not holding my breath.
Is it that easy at Skywest to drop trips? How about during the good times (2007!) when airlines were actually working to fill classes? At AE, drops were non-existent back then - "Denied Due To Staffing."

I've heard it was difficult to drop trips back then. (I wasn't around at the time.) But nowadays, I can drop just about anything, anytime. For example, this month I was able to drop a July 4th trip. (I suspect it's not quite like this on the bro, however.)

Drops were not non-existent, though a bit more difficult to come by...and there was always the option to post a pairing...

We are overstaffed on EMB Captains where as we are understaffed on EMB FO's. Back in 06 - late 07 it was impossible to drop a trip without calling in sick. Today I can drop anything at anytime.

System wide (EMB CA) we have 27% reserve coverage and in my domicile (FAT) we have 35% coverage. That’s the highest in the company.

System wide:

CRJ CA: 14.8% coverage
CRJ FO: 15.7% coverage
EMB CA: 27% coverage
EMB FO: 7% coverage

CRJ Captain only:

DEN: 193 lines, 16 reserves, 8.3% coverage
ORD: 181 lines, 33 reserves, 18.2% coverage
SLC: 336 lines, 44 reserves, 13% coverage

Note: Keep in mind that its peak season and we have over 150 pilots out on leave.

I was wondering why my lines this summer have been so good.

In August for ORD CRJ FO’s we have 178 lines and 33 reserves with 226 FO’s, 15 FO’s aren’t bidding. The average RJ line was built to 86-90 hours.
