How can you distinguish an regional pilot from a room full of pilots? He's the one eating Ramen noodles, has frosted hair, back pack, ipod, looks dead tired from being abused by scheduling, still has that googly eyed look because he's flying an rj, and tells everyone he works for Delta

Let us count the DCI carriers, there is a lot I might miss some: Comair,ASA,SkyWest,Freedom,Pinnacle,Mesaba,Compass . Can we include Mesa in this mix or does Freedom count twice? HMMM I'm missing someone... Well the point is this being a furloughed Mesa Pilot, the injunction was upheld now the bullseye is moving around looking for the next victim. Mesa is still furloughing pilots and their contract with Delta is good until 2012. But according to JO the relationship with Delta isn't going to get any better in the near future so Mesa will continue to plan for the worst and look at trimming the pilot population. The Delta contract with MESA/Freedom is worth $20,000.000.00 a month! The cash value is around $750m to $1billion. Mesa is the only 3 tier regional carrier so if Delta moves to offer cash on the barrel Mesa might jump. Their legal position which includes letters of explaination from Delta for the spin down of Freedom flying is the silver bullet for Delta's case. Delta will lose! Delta can say well we are going to lose out so lets make them fly or pay them off. Either way Mesa will not be hurt that much any longer, but the which of the other regionals will lose out...... ONLY THE SHADOW KNOWS!

You forgot the wrinkled frumpy appearance from the sleepless schedule!

Yeah, whatever you say. Don't believe everything you read. I know the whole thing about Delta making them cancel, blah blah blah, but last winter, if it drizzled, Freedom canceled JFK flights by the dozen, because they did not have enough reserve crews to cover timed out crews (I heard that directly from Freedom pilots). The aircraft they fly suck, they hardly ever take a full load of 50 pax. If wx goes down, forget it. I've been on their planes where they could only take 40 people! Useless airline, and that's that.

RichieAshburn, please continue to do your best to take back as much flying as possible. I doubt you'll be able to, since your senior colleagues will sell out RJ flying for any hope of a better retirement payment. I'd love to see more mainline flying as much as the next person, I'd be willing to take a furlough now if that's what it took.

FYI Flying under NW was much better than flying for DL in several ways.

Like I posted earlier, the attitude at mainline is changing with regards to flying rj's. We need to start by getting Compass on our list. Maybe it won't happen, but it's worth the effort.

FYI, I'm DAL north, so I think I know how things were at NWA...

of course you do, that way when the furloughs show up at mainline later this year, 300 or so ADDITIONAL pilots can save some mainline dirtbags who did not give them a second thought a few months ago. (save for a sudden and dramatic turnaround of the economy)

They really are pitiful to be associated with. I have absolutely no care at all for any of our pax on the plane, except on a human level. I'd never do anything to save DL any money, and I don't feel a gram of loyalty to the company. I strictly do what my FOM and job duty requires, and nothing more.
And that is why your company will lose the flying. I saw first hand how bad Mesa was out of JFK. I had Mesa crews tell me how bad they were. There was one period where they could not even staff their own scheduled flights let alone have reserves because so many pilots were quitting so fast.
One last thing. You may find your reputation for trying to be as poor a employee as possible follows you into job interviews. Avaition is not that big and there are lots of back door channels on pilots going for interviews. Treat your regional airline well because I suspect you will be stuck there for life.

I do not work for Mesa. I do not go out of my way to do anything above or beyond what is required of me by my employer, and if you think that's being a "bad pilot", please tell me what motivation I should have to do otherwise since DL is making it perfectly clear that regional pilots are nothing more than a unit of contracted labor.
