Default Mesa CRJ hit geese on takeoff from SBA

Incident: Mesa Airlines CRJ2 at Santa Barbara on Aug 5th 2009, flock of birds

A Mesa Airlines Canadair CRJ-200 on behalf of US Airways, flight YV-2920/US-2920 from Santa Barbara,CA to Phoenix,AZ (USA) with 49 passengers and 4 crew, struck a flock of geese while taking off from Santa Barbara, one goose hitting a wing and another one hitting the nose gear. The crew levelled off at 3000 feet, went into a holding for about 20 minutes and returned to Santa Barbara for a safe landing.

The flight was cancelled, the passengers rebooked onto other flights.

The airline reported, that the airplane received minor damage, but was ferried out of Santa Barbara for repairs.

Wait Mesa??? How did these regional pilots survive??? They must have had a mainline pilot riding jumpseat and when things got bad, he took over

PETA already has a lawsuit filed on behalf of the deceased geese.

All airlines should be equiped with a mini gun in the nose to shoot the pesky birds out of out way on t/o and landings-

I have a gun in the nose - it doesn't stop bird strikes!
