No I'm saying that no matter how many hours you have sitting in an airplane it will not make you safer with out the proper training. What if I had 2500 hours dual given and the "magical ATP" will that make me more safe in flying an 121 carrier a/c? NO! What about the Tinery Islands accident or the Cali Colombia or Value Jet, or the hundreds of other accidents that show CRM was the issue. Colgan was CRM and lack of disipline. Chuck Yeager couldn't have saved them because they were too undisciplined and unprofessional. Young yes, but properly trained they wouldn't have sat around and yapped like monkey's about all the ice. Training and the lack there of killed them not the hours they did or didn't have!

I think a combination of both is the best solution, but we seem to agree close enough

..proper training? they all had "proper" training. Just a lot of them don't have any maturity or realization of the responsibility they command....colgan....pinnacle....that jetstream under "American" colors..... whatever.

As long as it is real training and not relying on the magic of the ATP. Remember anyone can get an ATP with hours just in the traffic pattern. There needs to be some real training without killing the pilot groups or those students who want to be pilots. Alot is riding on the proper legislations and ALPA shouldn't sell out our souls. Thanks for listening good luck.
