So I am sure that this will turn into a GoJet bashing thread, and I want to say that this is not my intention. I started this thread for two reasons. One, was just to ask exactly what the title says. Here is some of this morning's post from an aviation job website.

Second reason for this post is to point out the experience that is required. I just can't believe that in today's environment, with the media attention on low time pilots and the simple fact that thousands of people with experience in the thousands of hours, that GoJet would still be hiring street captains or low time FO's.

Culture of innovation huh? So that's what we are calling lowering the bar for everyone and circumventing another carrier's contract these days

I don't know if they are still hiring or not and I don't really care. If you have any pride you won't work for this airline. If you don't care about the long term prospects of your career go ahead and apply and let managers everywhere know that you are willing to fly under a crappy contract because you love flying so much.

They are only hiring furloughed UAL pilots at this time due to a provision in the UAL/ALPA contract that states any growth at UAX will be filled first by furloughed UAL pilots.

Whatever you call your cute little crusade, you're being a hypocrite. For the simple reason that you're flying for a regional airline, you are letting managers everywhere know that you are willing to fly under a crappy contract because you love flying so much.

There's nothing wrong with working for a regional airline. However, there is something wrong with working for a regional airline and then bashing another regional airline.

I'm sorry for working for a regional, please point me in the direction of the major airline that hires flight instructors and I'll quit immediately....please I'm waiting.....didn't think so....

As I've said in numerous other threads if I could flight instruct my way to the majors I could, but that is impossible. The regionals are a stepping stone, everyone knows that but that doesn't mean we have to choose to work for the worst ones, especially an alter-ego that was set up to circumvent contract negotiations. What kind of message does that send to the Tilton's of the world that are itching to set up alter-egos at the mainline level?

We all talk about educating people about the industry so what's wrong with educating people about the history of GoJet? Isn't that something they should know before they go there?

You might want to check ASA's contract against Gojet's before you cast stones.. ASA's is industry leading..... (mind you I don't work at ASA) yes we're aware industry leading regional is still regional but then we're not the ones who sold scope down the river and now are willing to replace ourselves with.... ourselves for 23 an hour... Idk... maybe I'm the crazy one.

Used to be you could put in 5-6 years and 4-5k hours /w good PIC and get out. But, I wouldn't hold your breath to get off this stepping stone anytime soon. Mathematically, if you are young, you'll make it someday (in theory).

However, with the increasing allocation of major airline flying going to the regionals, the continually dropping bar of wages and QOL, the acclamation of the public to the low ticket prices (isn't undone quickly), the slew of pilots on furlough right now, the slew of current RJ captains with their stakes in the turf, etc - it'll be a loooong time before anyone who sits right seat in a RJ or even lower down the professional totem pole will make it to a major - at least in this country.

I don't think 1000/200 hrs is low for a place like gojet. In '06-'07 it seemed like they were hiring guys with wet comm/multi's. As has been mentioned before, you never know if you'll be stuck at the regional you choose for a very long time. Might as well wait it out for a quality one (as quality as a regional can get). I think I would fly single pilot ifr in a piston twin before I would go to a place like that.
