Ever hear of Catalina Flying Boats?

I've been trying to break into that....but the pre-reqs are a bit hefty.

Also sounds like the perfect job for me right now....wake up at 4am, get to the airport (3 miles from the house), check WX, help load, depart at 6AM to AVX, land 15 minutes later, unload, depart for LGB, land, coffee, do it 3 more times, off at 3pm, gym, beer:30, fun time with the gf, sleep.

Maybe then I can have the routine to get my six-pack back...

I've never heard of them. However, I flew "the van" at my freight job. It was a great job and the easiest job I've had in this horrible business. I didn't have to load or unload either. Sure, I was the slowest flying plane out there in the IFR system and got vectored a lot for faster traffic but I didn't care. We weren't allowed to go VFR anywhere.

Happy thanksgiving Waterskiers. I'm open to suggestions regarding the date for the furlough party...a number of venues has been suggested and were waiting on a final decision. I am thinking maybe 21 or 22. I would imagine any interested people will be in STL on those dates. Lemme know. Also, a buddy of mine just got out of jail and will attend for anyone interested in WaterSkier for life tattoos. not srs.

So anyone have any plans? Any specific regionals people are looking at? Compass/go jet I guess would be first with the pref hiring. 135? Or leaving the industry all together?

I hope everyone being furloughed has read the LOA regarding pref. hiring. Speaking strictly from an initial pay standpoint, there is no advantage in going to GoJet or Compass unless you're in your third year of longevity with TSA. See below:

"...((a "moving pilot") will carry forward fifty percent (50%) of his Trans States longevity for purposes of pay..."

"Such longevity, however, will be frozen until the pilot's actual longevity at the sister carrier reaches parity with the longevity carried forward from Trans States."

Example: a furloughed pilot with 23 months longevity is furloughed from TSA and goes to work for GoJet. He carries with him 11.5 months of longevity. However, he will not receive second year pay from GoJet until he has worked at GoJet for 12 months.

That being said, I know there are other advantages besides initial pay that some can come up with when deciding to go one of our "sister" carriers. Some people have been surpised when I've brought this up, so I just wanted to put it out there. I'm also interested to see if anyone thinks I'm reading this wrong.

considering DG became a flight manager as an FO, and couldn't hold captain senority when I was downgraded back in 08, i'd highly doubt that he gets downgraded this time either.

The bold portion is a true statement all on it's own.

Fixed it for you too.

And the way you're reading it jives with the way I've interpreted it.

Yes, that's the way I read it as well. Unless you have over two years of longevity at TSA, there is no advantage to going to the sister carriers.
