This company does not have a history of overstaffing, in fact quite the opposite. What is going on right now is very similar to what happened in December 2012 and January 2013 when the new aircraft for United were announced, and the January 2013 hires all went straight from OE to lines, and were able to upgrade in less than a year. In fact, all the Comair guys hired in that time have upgraded that want to.
From the activity I'm seeing and have heard about, I'd say we're getting at least 10 airplanes for somebody, probably American and maybe United as well starting in July. We'll hear something in the next couple of weeks.
So if you are looking for a decent contract and a quick upgrade, you 'd be nuts not to look at TSA.

Exactly. This company does not have a history of being properly staffed with pilots sitting around with nothing to do. Anybody can see we are overstaffed for the flying we have now, and they are continuing to hire. Something is going to happen, soon. Everything is pointing to more flying, not furlough. But this is the airline industry, so anything is possible.

Not gonna lie, the captain side is bordering on slightly overstaffed. That's VERY strange for this company. (Not sure we're overstaffed on FOs yet... or even really properly staffed). But since the upgrades are continuing unabated, that makes me think something's up. The only reason they stopped for the past couple months is a shortage of FOs. So either they're planning on massive attrition soon, or something's up...
That said, I'm going to take my usual tsa stance and say I refuse to believe it until i declare an emergency in it.

So....I AM the new guy. And reading this thread is interesting insightful and disheartening all in one. I am not sure of what to make of the banter here but my heart says that it's kind of like reading a review on Trip Advisor about a restaurant. There is always some owner or manager sticking in a 5 star review and there is always some scorned bitter person who simply cannot me made satisfied even if they got a happy ending with their massage. But the "preponderance of evidence" shows that there is a move afoot to increase the flying at TSA and that now is a good time to be entering the industry. Most interesting of all is the fact that something will change industry wide to increase the number of ATP holding qualified applicants. There may not be a shortage but when I interviewed I was NOT impressed with my fellow interviewees.....and we all got offered jobs.
