I figured it was a zero tolerance policy.
For what it's worth I met a pilot once who got 19 SADs for missed commutes his first year alone before he got fired. I'm not saying you should be like that at all, but don't ruin your life because of the company. There's no reason for you to drive half way to SFO every day at 4am and sit around not getting called. Stay at home and 99% of the time you're going to make your commute just fine. If they give you a 2 hour callout and suddenly you end up in a traffic jam and you're going to be 30 minutes late just call in and confess. CS may not even do anything to you about that situation since calling another reserve would take 2 hours while waiting for you may only take 30 minutes.

If you do end up getting a SAD or two maybe you can start being a little more conservative but until then there's no reason to let the job take over your life. I've been a commuter the entire time I've been at Skywest first on the Brasilia and then on the RJ and I still haven't gotten a SAD.

I second that

You guys both have very good points. I just don't have a very good feel for the threshold yet so I didn't know. Its refreshing to find out that its not as draconian as I thought. That's some real good insight there.

Thanks

So its like if I am reasonably expected to make it there in 1:45 95% of the time but due to an abnormally bad commute or an accident I am 2:15 occasionally (say one out of 8 times or so) and stay honest with CS about it than its a no biggie in their eyes. Is that the feel we are going for here?

The only time that SADS really matter is when you apply to be a check airman.

I spent 6 months on reserve on the bro and I didn't have 8 two hour callouts in that time. If you're going to get there in 2:15 it's probably not even worth a call to CS. Check in on your phone and when you get to the plane let the captain know what happened. You won't get in any trouble for it.

Disclaimer: If you identify who I am in person I deny ever giving you that advice.

In almost 2 years I've only had one problem getting to work. The employee bus broke down and they wouldn't let us off. The captain was cool and had everything set up so I just sat down and we closed the door to ping the out time. After that he told me to take my time and settle in before we pushed but that way cs had no idea I was late.

All great info.

Much easier to sit here at home really.

Thanks for the input on this, I was under the impression you would get written up pretty quick.

I'm just saying, if they ask you to be there earlier than 2 hours, don't promise it. Just say you'll do the best you can.
