New base award announced. I'm just not getting this. 12 FO's moved to IAD, another 30 new-hires were assigned it. Coupled with 17 leaving for DFW, that's still a net gain of 25 to Dulles, which I thought was sufficiently staffed.
As for Phoenix, I thought Standing Bid indicated one permanent spot would open there. Additionally, 11 FO's left Phoenix for other domiciles. So, wouldn't they need 12 people to move there? Only one guy was assigned it... What am I missing?

I just finished IOE. Still don't know where I'm going. No one in our 8/7/14 class has been awarded.

That's just a real bummer. Could've used good news today. I know every other pilot has been in this position and an extra month or two isn't a big deal in the scheme of things. Still, it gets expensive having two places and always paying for fast food, I've noticed crashpads always attract one loud snorer per night, and it's no fun being away from loved ones for months at a time.
What caused Phoenix to shrink? Less LA flying?

What's the upgrade at now, like a year and a half?

I know it's big news to get, and you'd probably rather not get it off a message board. But, looks like every new-hire is assigned IAD "upon release from training."

It's been a rough day for personal and now professional reasons. I'm not here to throw a pity party, I just wanted to ask if anyone could explain the discrepancy. Navmode was kind enough to. Thanks for your concern.

Most of the US population lives out east (don't ask me why) so most of the "regional" flying tends to be out that way. Living out west is hard on a regional FNG. You'll most likely end up commuting across the country at some point.
