80, I think most of your input is great.

I'm too old for this S... is very appropriate.

It's just stunning what's happening.
But what is missed is precisely that they are trying to avoid replacing their retiring pilots (at least as many as possible) if they can create a huge new career slum in 70-90 seat jets. A permanent underclass of airline pilots. An apprenticeship that lasts not 5 or 10 years but 15 or 30. That's your career.

I feel like I'm watching "It's a Wonderful Life" the Jimmy Stewart movie... do you want to spend your career in Pottersville or Bedford Falls?

Slum careers is what management is going after right now. They want as many pilots stuck in the regional SLUM for as long as they can get us stuck here. AA offers protracted flow through, Delta has their deals... United I am sure will soon follow with some ridiculous flow deal... I picture George Bailey yelling at his depositors... "Potter's not selling, Potter's BUYING! Why? Because we're panicky and he's not."

Well airline management may be trying to look like they're giving you a deal with airplanes or flowthroughs, but they're BUYING your career for cheap. We don't have to sell it cheap. We just don't.

I think we're not quite communicating with each other- I'll try to explain it better:

You're right, I do have mine now, but I played the same tune when I was at a regional. The fact is that more mainline jobs/less regional jobs= good for nearly all those involved... and mostly for my friends that are stuck at the regionals. That means movement away from the low paying jobs to the high paying jobs that are replacing them where you're actually treated like a human. How can anyone argue with that logic?

Nothing at all wrong with that, it is just the percentage chance that you think it will work for you. Wish me luck.

There will never be a shortage.
I can already see how popular the xyz airline "sign up to be a pilot" tent will be on campuses across the nation.
"Step right up, learn to fly while being paid 35k salary"
"Build time at our academy making 45k"
"Move on to our jets and get an instant 10k salary pay bump"
"Do you want a three day weekend every weekend!?"
"We even give you money to buy food while on the road, think of all the money you save just by going to work."
"After a few years you'll find yourself in the left seat, in command of your ship salaried at 80k guaranteed for the rest of your life"

Wonderment
