Default ALPA Shenanigans

Did anyone just receive a spam email basically saying "Dear Pilot... check this cool link out!" (I don't normally click random links but it looked legit)

I just read the 27 page narrative in the email about the UAL JCBA and the level of corruption at ALPA national. Interesting stuff.

See the link for your viewing pleasure:

It's hard to believe Moak's contempt for United?

I can only wonder what he's trying to do to the regionals?

Anybody have the cliff notes version of this? I'm usually pretty bored on the overnight but not this bored.

ALPA national continually undermined UAL pilots during the merger. Apparently regional pilot gains aren't the only thing they like to see go up in flames.

Another spam email received by "Joseph Pilot". Looks like someone got a hold of ALPA's membership email list or something.

Subject: A must read and why I support Heide

Here's a well written paper by Oly Olson about our recent history.

As one of the "angry pilots who paid attention," who helped encourage the pulling of ALPA-PAC contributions and letter writing to Capt. Moak at the time, as well as participating in the White House picket operations, I think this article clearly illustrates why status quo at the top of ALPA is no longer acceptable, and that Heide is our best choice to represent us at the national level.

Every time I see another ALPA call to action email encouraging another "keyboard campaign" aimed at Washington regarding NAI, I am reminded of Captain Moak's response to us at our council meeting. When I asked why we weren't more aggressive, why there was no effort to get ALL AIRLINE PILOTS picketing around the nation against this threat, he said we shouldn't look like whining pilots and that we had to work within the system, but that if he thought it would help, he would consider picketing at some point.

In other words, he'd be sure to make it look like he tried everything, while actually not doing everything he could.

We should all realize that NAI is not dead, and we should be unwilling to accept the pathetic inevitabilism of letter writing campaigns against similar schemes that will surely follow. I think Heide has realistic plans to harness our collective power and use it more effectively than in the past.

Personally I respect Jay Heppner and think he has been an overall effective leader at the MEC level, under his watch we have achieved significant gains. That cannot be taken away. Over the recent years though, I have wanted and advocated for more aggressive leadership, but that is clearly not his style.

If Heide were not running for the same post I would be supportive of him for ALPA president, but Heide is running and I think she is the better person for the job.

I know I am just one voice in the peanut gallery, and after 28 years I'm tired of seeing patterns repeat. I have grown dissatisfied with ALPA presidents in the tradition of Duffy, Woerth, Babbitt, Prater, Moak, etc who spend time and a lot of our dues money to represent us, but somehow also manage to expand their circle of support to gain higher office or industry position.

No more future FAA Administrators, Industry Consultants or Airline VP's at the top of our union thank you!

Heide is clearly not of that mold, and that is another reason I support her.
