As an instructor here I'll throw in my experience as well. I asked today and was told that from entering the door to IOE we have a 79% pass rate currently. I'm a sim guy and I do whatever I can to make everyone successful through the sims. If I saw there was any forms of racism going on I'd be the first to start calling in sick for a hostile work environment. Come in with some flying skills and a good attitude and we will try our best to get you through. The sim portion is stressful at times but most of my students have had some fun as well.

I can vouch for what Larry in TN said. The guy in question was a great guy and hard working, but he had a lot of trouble learning the procedures. Myself and numerous others in class spent many hours trying to help him out, but I guess it was just too much for him. Racism had absolutely nothing to do with it.

From what I have seen in talking to people in regional airline training departments, 79% isn't bad at all. Look at the reason that 21% do not make it. That will give you the real info.
How many people in each class leave for family emergencies, other jobs that they had previously applied for, and other random reasons? I would guess at least 2 out of every 25 people.
79% would mean that out of each 25 person class, it is likely that 2-3 people quit for whatever reason, and 2-3 fail out. I would guess that the majority of those that fail out are due to lack of studying and taking it seriously.
The real question is: What is the pass rate of the people that show up to class every day, study at night, and have at least some decent level of pilot ability?

Measuring the number that try hard and still fail, that would represent the effectiveness of the training department.
