Anything New At AWAC?

How about instructors not knowing what will be on the checkride and not knowing what the PTS standard for a manuver is? I went through 2 different instructors in my 8 sessions. One didn't even know that CATII was a checkride item! He thought it was a "box-checking" event like the circling approach because "FO will not fly CATII".
How about instructors who cannot recognize an actual sim malfunction and instead of writing it up so the sim tech can look at it, he insisted on doing manuvers that required a particular piece of broken equipment?
What exactly is the standard for no-flap landing? Depends on who you a ask!
How about instructors who was asking me why I was doing something that the QRH directed me to do and I had to explain it to him! If he was paying attention, he wouldn't be asking me why I was doing it!!

Did you mention the broken item? If he didn't fix it after that then that sucks. Sounds like you've have a heck of a time but keep a good attitude man.

Cat II is not a checkride item. You will do it during your ride but it is for cert purposes only. The check airman should announce that the ride is over, grats u passed, and now were going to do rnav and cat II cert. this is how it was a year ago. I wasn't doing an ATP ride but I don't see how that could matter

I wasnt doing ATP either and it mattered because if it's a checkride item then you need to perform it on your checkride up to a certain standard. You didn't perform a circling approach or windshear escape on your checkride did you? Thats because those are NOT checkride items!

You don't get it! It isn't the student's problem to detect sim problems! Lot of people hired never even seens a level D sim before! If I didn't have prior 121 experience, I would probably not know that the sim had malfunctioned! I probably have thought that the instructor programmed it in and see how I would react seeing how so many of my sessions werent following the syllabus/profile but just them throwing **** at me just to see if I could do it or catch some FMS tricks that they played on me!

It may not be the student's *job* to detect sim problems, but they can do themselves and the people that follow a solid by ensuring the sim problem gets written up...because just like an airplane, it won't get fixed if it isn't put in the logbook.

The best way to deal with a training issue would be to politely and discretely contact a manager, in particular PP. These people are surprisingly reasonable and I know that most of them know what's really going on.
No chip on your shoulder and no excuses. Just the facts.
Complaining and whining when tons of other people get through seems like a fast track to the unemployment line.

Configbrain, It is too late to help, I already made it out of training. But if you want something I will PM you with something.

What is your definition of "politely and discretely contact a manager" and what is your definition of "Complaining and whining" and what is your definition of "getting through"? When I was getting through, straight from an instructor's mouth that over 90people requested extra sim in previous 6 months. that's pretty much everybody hired in that period!! Also people didn't passed their checkride on first go. Do you consider them "getting through" as well?

What I mean by discreetly contacting someone is to shoot them an e-mail or stop someone in the hallway. Or call. We all know the phone numbers.
This place can be shockingly reasonable if people are making progress and honest efforts to succeed and be honest in their assessment of where they are.
But you made it through and that's awesome. It's hard training and you can be proud of that.
