Honesty time- any regional lifers?
So it seems that in today's threads in regards to regionals...its a...get in...do the time and get out kind of thing with everyone. Obviously more money is a nice thing too by going to the big leagues...but how many regional pilots just love flying and are totally content with making a full career with a regional only?

Some theorize the regionals won't be around in another 10 or 20 years. Or if they still are, they'll be significantly downsized. Coupled with the small but disconcerting possibility of single-pilot cockpits, I wouldn't hold out hope for making a career at a regional if you're relatively young.

Just talked to a friend today w/ more than 20 years at a Regional. He's an instructor making over $150k a year. He sees the writing on the wall and he's looking for an escape plan. Keep in mind what the Regionals are there for - To feed their MAJOR Partners.

I would hang around and make a career of it if I could get 14-15 days off a month consistently and some certainty of existence for the next 25-30 years. Everything else has met or exceeded my expectations.

We had a company communication which stated that the low cost regionals were basing their prices on the old model of a large supply of cheap FO labor and a low seniority workforce. The communication said this was unrealistic.
Comair got too senior and they axed it. Eagle, bankrupted. I used to live in a country where companies went bankrupt every 5 years or so, just to gut labor costs. The various tricks they use, like serial bankruptcy, various carrot and stick approaches, and whipsaw are surely failing. The truth, is managements don't know what they are going to do. Has anyone read the SKYW thread? They are being worked hard over there, days being reduced, QOL nosediving, and morale with it--just like the rest of us. So even they are being affected by the "shortage". Add to this, the stock market is doing loops and somersaults everyday on extreme volatility. No one obviously has any confidence in the direction of the economy.
So to sum up. No one knows what to do.

Not sure what the future holds of course but it would seem to me that regional managements know exactly what they are doing and have known all along- exploit the cheap pilot labor supply in America by victimizing those who believe in the "get in and then get out" myth.
