That "low time guy" has at least 2500 hours including 1000 part 121. Yes, that's pretty low time for an RJ captain but your company managed to run 18 month upgrades and nobody put one into a Mexican mountain.

It should be different and I doubt the FAA would allow a CA on probation. Safety starts to break down when a CA is de-facto forced to make a flight when it's not safe just because they're on probation. CAs have no business being on probation, even as a street CA.

Probation is a union/company thing. The FAA doesn't recognize probation silly, they care about enforcing regulations. Last I checked, things like a medical, a type rating, currency etc.. were all that was required. I don't recall an FAR requiring a pilot to be off of probation. Your enthusiasm is promising though.

PS - last I checked they are violating pilots in pairs these days, not to mention the dispatcher is jointly responsible.

This could be the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my whole time on this board. Regardless of whether you're on probation, a certificated ATP should never conduct a flight if it wasn't safe to do so. The FAA should be more concerned with a 121 operator that is "forcing" their pilots to fly.

How many ASAPs would it take to get the attention of the FAA with the subject "it was unsafe to fly and my chief pilot threatened to terminate me if I didn't go?"

Skywest is non-union. Are they de-facto the most dangerous airline ever?

I doubt it's the dumbest thing you've ever heard on this board...

What I'm saying is that a brand new CA with the bare minimum experience and being at a company that's known for retribution against it's employees could be pressured to take a flight they shouldn't. I know that they should put their foot down, but you and I both know there's pilots that are too scared to put their foot down for anything and being on probation as an inexperienced CA does not help things.

Sorry but 2500 hours is pretty low time.

18 months is quite a bit more than 7 months in terms of experience. (depending how much they have flown)

TSA was known for retribution last decade. The DO has been quoted that he'd rather have a flight go out late if it's safe and legal than on-time and not.

Hou, why aren't you on the PSA and Mesa threads complaining about their 1000 SIC with potentially less than 2500TT? It will be fine. Promise.

Listen clown. It is IMPOSSIBLE to upgrade with just 7 months of experience. To get 1000 SIC, you have to fly no less than 14 months. A year and a half is the most realistic estimate.
