Oh boy, where to even start.
Scope must be hard fought by mainline pilots to be recaptured? Holy sh*t they are the ones who gave it away for $$. The only way mainline pilots are getting scope back is to buy it back. At best, they are just not going to sell any more. If the company wants to bring regional flying back in, that's on them. Pilots will be on the sidelines watching it.
---
Delta flies B717's. With a first class in a 717, that's what 6 more seats the a 190/195? American (US Airways) flies 190's now.
Again, they'll have to trade for it. Mainline pilots best play is to not touch scope at all. I'm sure they are not interested in selling more. Clearly they will not pay to buy it back, I mean why would they? Why would a mainline pilot care?
These regionals bring in billions of profits for their mainline partners. If airlines get desperate, they can always over hire at mainline, and furlough to the regionals. This notion that regionals will fall apart on their own, and mainline will return the flying is ludicrous. Scope recapture must be hard fought by mainline pilots.

I don't know but if mainline pilots are smart there will be no more scope sold away. Otherwise what will happen is the big three legacy airlines will be nothing more than marketing and ticket sales companies. They won't own any airplanes. They will simply bid the work out to the lowest paid boeing and airbus operators. Regional airline business model 2.0

There is no need for mainline pilots to touch scope at the regional level. The rj threat is now self correcting. No pilots coming in at the lowest levels and hoards leaving at the top equal a dying regional model. No one will be left as cannon fodder. DAL is in the midst of a contract right now. We'll have a TA within months. AND there is no talk about bringing regional flying to mainline - none from ALPA, none from DAL.
The majors are NOT doing anything about the pilot shortage because they are happy to hire from the Envoys and Skywests. When that talent pool is dry, they'll hire from Jetblue, et al. And then they might start to panic.

The writing is clear as hell the regional game is coming to an end far sooner than later. Barring any ATP reversal or something extreme the ship is sinking.
They have had a hell of a run, but it's coming to an end. This summer is going to be atrocious for the likes of RAH and others who are already hurting and canceling flights.

Bingo. It is absolutely no coincidence, at all, that all 3 legacies are looking at -190s, Bombardier C-Series etc.
