News media stunned by Darby's frank assessmen
Bloomberg news casters are *stunned* by Kit Darby's frank response to questions on the suitability of new pilots due to pilot shortage, around the 2:10 mark. The screws are starting to fall out.

When I first saw this I thought "Kit Darby! Oh brother". But he was very clear and very realistic in his assessment. He made a good point about airlines needing to consider pilots they wouldn't have in the past, but keeping the actual training standards high.
He also brought out the same point ML CEOs have that communitits with less revenue will lose service.
Also, ticket prices aren't based on supply and demand or overhead. They're based on the highest price the public will pay while reaching a specific load factor.

I'm disappointed.
IT'S ABOUT THE PILOT PAY, KIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He had ample opportunity to point this out, but he never did.
This is why old people should NOT be the spokespersons for anything other than Depends, Rolaids, or Reverse Mortgages. He fat, happy, well paid, and old. He cannot speak on behalf of young people who chose another profession because they want a livable salary.

Are primary training failures as criticized as much as 121 failures?
Let's say someone busts their CFI twice but has a spotless record after that...and the said person had a accident...would the public go nuts if they found out they had those issues for a rating that's not even needed?

He did a good job raising concerns without bashing his fellow pilots. Pay needs to go up at the regionals, but when it does it still won't draw the majority of commercial/charter pilots that are happy where they are or want to skip the regionals on their way to the majors.

If there is a pattern of incompetence when you put together check rides, accidents/violations, etc, then there will be a problem.
I think that was the bigger issue in 3407 for example, not just the hours of the pilots when they got hired. But it's good to see that now a pilot has to have a few hours to develop skills and demonstrate their competency before moving on to the airlines.
All airlines are hiring pilots with past failures if there isn't some underlying competency issue.
