The United head of hiring was on a webinar yesterday highly discouraging a lateral move.

I'm a FOever FO and have thought about a lateral move many times. I just thought it was an interesting comment and worth sharing. But ultimately, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.
My comment wasn't directed at you personally, sorry if it came off that way. I'm just tired of hearing all the "Secrets" on how to get hired. I know people personally who have applied and gotten hired with zero job fairs and a LOR, and were lucky enough to have a CP on their jumpseat, I've heard of others picked up with zero PIC time and a job fair. Then I know captains that are LCAs, in good standing with the company, have attended 3 job fairs and have 10 letters of rec and they don't hear a peep. I honestly think it's a crapshoot no matter what you do, so I've given up on playing the game. I'd rather spend my money and time on things I enjoy rather than on job fairs.

It seems like with some of these airlines, you needed to come out of the womb working on taking the right steps to getting hired. A major airline job is an excellent career, but I'm not going to waste years of my life with tunnel vision focused on a major, while the rest of my life passes by.

I attended the Tuesday session. This same question was posed and the response was it's no big deal. Sounds like you are saying the Wednesday session it became a huge disqualifying problem.

Tuesday evening response was it is "discouraged", not recommended and don't disrupt your family for it basically.

However, same discussion mentione PIC time is important, but don't chase it!!

I guess it's left to individual interpretation...

FWIW someone from my class at SkyWest came over from Envoy. I have friends at Envoy and another is considering coming over to SkyWest. I believe you can still get the bonus if your type is current. Good luck, whatever you choose.

Edit: I'll also add one of my Envoy friends has been on reserve over two years now. I got a line two months after IOE.

(Chasing the PIC time that is) I'm sure it's not something that'll ultimately disqualify you from UAL, but something to think about. Keep in mind, though, the FAQ was mostly geared toward people chasing the left seat. Your situation seems a bit different.
LOL! So someone disconnected from the reality of what regional pilots face says that what you are doing is disrupting your family? Tell that to a Comair guy who stuck out to the last day. Or the thousand+ Envoy/Endeavor guys that have left and many with lateral moves.

Out of the 14 bases at Skywest, IAH is probably #5 most junior on the CRJ.

Thanks for the insight. That'll make the decision that much easier. How are reserve times?

I wouldn't worry about it chances are his interpretation of what was said in incorrect. The full webinar will be released for download.
