It's good to hear line pilots chime in. Thanks for the feedback. Recruiters don't tell this message. I guess it pays to do research.

Yeah, there aren't many reasons to come to PSA right now. So PSA's pilot recruiters are touting PSA's schedule flexibility as a reason to come here. But what the recruiters are not telling people is that the Schedule Adjustment Period (a.k.a. "SAP") is only available for 24 hours from 5pm on the 16th of the month 'till 5pm on the 17th of the month and that it's only available to ROUND ONE LINE HOLDERS. When you're on reserve or if you only have enough seniority to hold a round two line, you can't "SAP" your schedule. They also won't tell you what I'm about to tell you: It often takes from 3 to 5 hours for their computer to approve or deny each and every one of my trade requests. If you have 24 hours to re-arrange your schedule and it takes 3 - 5 hours to find out if your trade worked,..... well you can't do much re-arranging of your schedule, especially if you happen to be flying those days.

Additionally, the company has been playing games with the reserve grid, (which is the subject of the "critical pay" grievance that's been on-going for a year), and the company won't allow pilots to trade their trips with open time trips because nearly every day is determined to be at or below the minimum required number of reserves for that day.

So don't be fooled by the recruiters attempt to use "scheduling flexibility" as a reason to come here. You've been warned.

It's fine. Living in downtown Dayton obviously wouldn't be the best. But there's ton of suburbs that are fantastic around it. Cheap cost of living, good schools, etc.....

You are close enough to go to Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis and depending up to Erie for a weekend etc.... Those cities all have things to do and aren't exactly "rough."

Anyways having lived in and around Dayton and Cincinnati I thought I'd chime in.... Guarantee the schools here are better then most in SC and NC.... I can't say about TYS but I'd bet the further you go away from the city the schools get rural and might or might not be good....

I'm a PSA Round One Line Holder and I approve of this message. Don't get me wrong, my quality of life at my seniority here at PSA is not terrible, but I do want a new hire comming to PSA to know what's in store for them. For where I want to live, and the lines I am able to hold I'm glade to be here at PSA verses another regional. SAP allows me to adjust my monthly schedule as I want it, but it does take the entire 24 hours, and multiple denials to get the schedule I need. Last month I had 24 denials with only 4 approvals, but that was all I needed to get the days off/commutable trips. I was waking up every 2 hours to check SAP, and resubmit bid requests. Small price to pay for a good schedule I guess.

Dayton might be cheap before taxes, but don't forget to add city income taxes into your equation along with high state taxes.

Well all info is appreciated. Thank you for this. I haven't been in Knoxville yet but I wouldn't mind to move to DAY or CVG for the time being. Not attached to AVL and I wanna avoid commute.
(Surroundings of Asheville are beautiful but it gets more crowed every year)

The commute wouldn't be that bad from avl to Tys or CLT

I agree and it's more the fact I want to avoid commute to DAY or CVG when I start. I am reading here that it might take 7-10 months before I can get TYS or CLT as base?
