Another "World According to Garp" opinion without rhyme or reason.

Air France? Why are they on there? I can remember the A340 in YYZ overrunning the runway the concorde and the latest the A330 that went down in the atlantic. Doesn't seem they should be at the top of a safest airline list

Here's the criteria they used. Sounds pretty idiotic to me.

The 15 selected criteria are:

Net financial result
Total number of passengers
Total number of employees
Total number of cabin crew employees
Total number of aircrafts
Average fleet age in service
Percentage of aircrafts on order
Fleet homogeneity
Number of aircrafts no longer in production
Number of aircrafts considered at risk
Total aircrafts-km flown
In house maintenance capability
Number of accidents during the last 10 years
Dedicated flight academy pilot-training facilities
Dedicated full flight simulators

(I copy and pasted from their site so don't blame the grammar mistakes on me!)

If that is the criteria, practically every Caravan freight hauler would be number one.

Exactly!
According to these criteria, you can land on a taxi way (instead of a runway), fall asleep and fly way past your destination, run into other aircraft, run into light post...etc...and still be on the list as safe, just because Delta....ooops...I mean YOUR Airline has a lot more planes and flights than the others.

Qantas does not do a lot of flights compared to the rest.
