(CNN) - A passenger flight carrying 239 people en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing is missing, Malaysia Airlines said Saturday.

The Boeing 777-200 departed Kuala Lumpur at 12:41 a.m. and was expected to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m., a 2,300-mile (3,700 kilometer) trip.

It was carrying 227 passengers, two of them infants, and 12 crew members, it said.

"Malaysia Airlines is currently working with the authorities who have activated their Search and Rescue team to locate the aircraft," the statement said. The public can call +603 7884 1234 for further information.

After looking over the departure time and time first noted aircraft was lost contact, it most likely wasn't in the area I had suggested. I edited my comments to keep things in line with a fact driven forum and informative nature and don't want to cause rampant speculation.
I am hoping for the best.

Heard him being called on guard freq earlier today. We were traveling CAN-KIX. There were multiple calls from ATC and other MH aircraft. No response.

pure speculation but the folks at pprune believe it went off radar while at FL 350 or so, and that China said it did not enter their airspace

I cant imagine this would be another fuel issue, they would have had time to call for help. Hopefully there's not another missing plane.

Godspeed.

That rumor is probably based on the flight aware info that stopped 1 minute after the radar track showed the a/c reaching FL350

MH has begun notifying NoK but there's still no updates about the aircraft.

NoK....Why would they be notifying North Korea?
