I'm hearing it was fueled with Jet-A rather than avgas.

I can't imagine the remorse the fueler is feeling right now. Very sad and my thoughts go out to the crew and their families.

I remember fueling planes in college and I thought a jet A hose nozzle would not fit into an avgas planes fuel tank....

I read elsewhere, if it has a helicopter adaptor that it will fit.

That's why I never left the airplane at an out station until the fuel truck showed up, I wanted to see which one they were going to use! Lots of line boys didn't know the difference between a turbo-prop and a recip. More than a few times the 100LL truck showed up to fuel our TURBO Commander. It didn't help that it looked a lot like a Shrike from a distance, which was a recip.

That one was ours. The tanks had the restricters installed. But the fuel truck was never fitted with the "squished nose" nozzle which had been purchased and sat in the store room for a couple years.

We had another one fueled with Jet A that didn't take off. The lineman complained to the pilot about having to use a funnel because the nozzle didn't fit.

Wow sorry to hear that. I would come thru KSAT routinely back in those days and word got out pretty quick about the plane going down.

Take care brother
