Default CFI renewal during shutdown

Hello all,

My CFI is about to expire the end of January, and I’m getting a little concerned about getting it renewed. I’m a current 121 Instructor and can renew under duties and responsibilities, but unfortunately our POI can’t do anything government related right now. I have American flyers as well and could do an online firc, but still need the FAA to do the paperwork. IACRA is complete and just need the paperwork completed. I’ve called the Airmen Certification Branch in OKC, called the local FSDO, emailed POI and all either closed or unable. Anyone have any ideas?

All FSDO’s and CMO’s are affected by the shutdown. There are probably no ASI’s on duty. If American Flyers has an ACR option to process the renewal, I would recommend going that route. Some DPE’s “may” be authorized by their POI to renew CFI’s, I think.

Having said all that, OKC Airman Certification office is also shut down. So even if you use IACRA, your application will be “on hold” till the shutdown ends. The temp cert is only good for 120 days. Then, well, Let’s hope the shutdown does not go that long... Only FAA ASI’s can issue an emergency field issuance (extension)....

I just renewed again with American Flyers, used the IACRA option. That way I at least have a temp and the paperwork done before the plastic expires. Even if the gov doesn’t do anything with it until they reopen. Worth the 8-12hrs of running in the background it takes for a little piece of mind.

Thanks all, I’m going to probably do the same and do AmericanFlyers for peace of mind.

New plastic CFI cert already showed in the mail at home. 8710 submitted 1/7/19, plastic in hand 2/5/19... surprised me.....

Wondering if the 30 question final test on the American Flyers renewal has to be completed once launched?

In other words, can you bein the quiz, log out, log back in and continue the quiz?

Thanks.

Never tried, but I'm guessing you can. They can't really flunk you if your wifi drops off or your laptop battery dies. Might have to start again from the beginning, and you might get a different question set.

But you should recognize all of the questions from the quizzes along the way.
