Helicopter experience?
I'm leaving college becaue I'm going into the Army's Warrent Officer Flight Program to fly helicopters.
How do the airlines view helo time? Will the time that I log count? Any advice so that I can make my self marketable with this time? Fly fixed wing aircraft on my time off?

Unfortunately rotary wing time doesn't count with the 121 companies. I'm not sure why since a lot of them are fairly heavy and are multi crewed.They also have to fly in an IFR environment. Any thoughts ar advice for the future W2?

get your Commercial pilot license- Rotary wing after WOFT , its an easy test and makes it very easy to get your FW ratings afterwards......then on your own time build as much time as you can ....OR get lucky and get a FW slot through the Army while you are there( which is very hard to do but its possible)
you only need 250 hours PIC in airplanes to get an ATP Airplane Multi Engine Land! Log your helicopter time using the part 61 legal definitions ( youll have to look them up because I cant remember for sure)
I got hired at a 121 ( regional ) with 300 hours of airplane time!! 1800 hours total time with 1500 in Army helos. I got alot of flight time in the Army because I was an instructor at Rucker for my last 3 years, of course that helped out with time building too.
Good luck in the Army.....it was a great time!

Helicopter time dosen't count for most airlines, even if it was a multi-engine, tandem rotor helicopter. Finish flight school and learn your skills as a Warrant Officer first. (spelling does count) Fixed Wing transitions for Active Duty Warrant Officers are possible but they are merit based, you can apply after 2 to 3 years depending on the annual message from DA. If you’re a Reserve Component Warrant Officer you can fly airplanes if you can get in the unit and they have a slot for you. The majority of Army fixed wing pilots are Reserve Component. One tip, don't mention to anyone that you only came into the Army so you could find a way to work for an airline, that will pi$$ them off! Army Aviation has the best helicopter pilots in the world; stay highly motivated and you will have the best time of your life!

Oops, didn't realize that I spelled WARRANT incorectly, even though I know better. It was about 11 PM after 6 hours of studying when I wrote this threat.
I've been Army enlisted for a while and have enjoyed it; hope that I'll have as much fun flying helos as I've been told it is.

UAL counts helo time. Got hired by UAL out of the COARNG after 11yrs active duty. I was flyhing a C26, AH-1F and OH-58. Have fun flying in the Army. I've flown tail draggers, bushflying, and the most fun I had was shooting rockets off an AH-1F. You'll have a great time
