Default Petroplavsk, Russia

Anyone had the distinct privilege of visiting Petro??? Have a crew swap coming up and wanted to get the skinny on hotels and any English speaking restaurants.

When are doing this crew change?

I did a three-day layover about 6 years ago; late April, it snowed every night. We stayed at the Avacha Hotel and Casino, old Intourist place, I think. It's that or the Hotel Petropavlovsk, which is reputed to be better. The Avacha is located near city center for what that's worth, not much. Walking around is safe and "interesting"--typical Russian girls in miniskirts and guys that look like small town thugs.

Handler is good, met us off the Aeroflot flight. Flight was ok, F/As made US senior look young--apparently Petro is very senior flying. You have to work changing from the international terminal to domestic at SVO, which then didn't have any transfers, cab it. There maybe other flights in nowadays. It's a Navy town, not much English spoken. The flight in/out in daylight is stunning.

Martha Madsen is still listed on the website, she's an American who's been there for a long time.

Awesome brief, thanks! I've been flying over the top of Petro on the way to somewhere else for years and always wondered what a layover there would be like.
