Default TDY on Reserve

Anyone done it?
Did you stay in the TDY location or go home on days off?
Did you have difficulty booking PS travel?
How many days off do you wind up getting since the day before and after a reserve block is technically TDY?
Thanks!

Depends a lot on the fleet. TDY long call reserve and how far you have to go. 737 is very dynamic. 777 not so much and more predictable.

I can sit long call in SFO for ORD. Short call, time to go out. Book the flights, call and get them authorized. Easy to do. Set up transportation with crew accommodation, and sit short call in your company paid hotel.

Book the flight as soon as you know your going. Getting a seat assigned is a bit more of a problem the closer to departure you get.

How many days off? Again much depends on the fleet. I would say you would probably work more on the narrow body, less on wide body.

I have another TDY question...I read the UPA but it seems a bit vague. If you're TDY, do they book you a hotel for the month? ie, if i choose to stay in my TDY location, do they pay for the hotel or do I have to PS home and back on days off?

You tell them when you need the TDY hotel. They'll book it for the entire month or you can tell them multiple check-in/out dates throughout the month.

Book your flights and send the PSC an email, or call, to have them confirmed.

They will send you a CCS message reminding you to book, with an email address.

I'm in my second month of TDY. I booked an entire month at the downtown hotel thinking it would be like EWR reserve and I'd barely work. Joke was on me. Got worked like a rented mule. Barely spent any time at the hotel and was constantly changing my PNRs for travel home on off days. I bid a line this month and got one. It's much more stable and worth more money for more days off. Moral of the story... If you plan on sitting reserve and not working, then you're in for a real treat.
