Yes, like bases. ATL/MEM. Or a retention bonus of 20k? There's a reason that exists and it isn't out of the goodness of their hearts. With the amount of movement at majors, it would be in ones best interests to join a growing/expanding regional and get the PIC to move on.

Didn't you and 100's of others come to Pinnacle for the fast upgrade a while back? Those same guys that are now 7-8 year FO's? How'd chasing the upgrade work?

Oh come on IB if you're gonna call out, then call out honestly. 9E was the place to go for the program schools Gulfstream and jetU. Quick upgrade was nice, but that was not the primary decision factor. In fact by then all the RJs were already on property and 0 growth.

Call out what? Honest question. So you are saying you only went there because they are the only ones who would hire you at the time with 300 hours? Fine. But not everyone was in that same situation, they came for the upgrade. Lots of them. And they are still in right seat or made lateral moves.

Well, it was a specific 9E program and they came down and interviewed every month. But you're right many did come for the quick upgrade. Big difference though is 2007 and onwards, upgrade movement was for attrition only and not growth. Difference now is 0 growth at Endaevor and lots of growth at other places. You're right it's always a gamble, but chances are a lot better at places upgrading due to new aircraft and growth versus upgrading due to attrition only (Endeavor).

Growth is great when there is a glut of new pilots salivating for upward mobility. Now there are fewer in the pipeline and regionals are resorting to poaching other carriers with 'carrots'. That poaching is slowing down too. Your growth regionals today are starting to feel the pinch of fewer pilots to hire and that'll be when the growth stops. A buddy of mine left 9E for RAH right after we declared Chpt 11 and RAH announced 75 E175s for growth. He was told a less than 2 year upgrade. Well he is still an FO 4 years later looking at a shrinking company and possibly a Chpt 11. The regionals aren't what they once were and when the last of the poaching stops, all the regional carriers will resume shrinking. If a quick advertised upgrade works for some great, but it won't work for others.
