So true. And apparently the head psychiatrist is out due to cancer or something.

Type 2 Diabetes
I’ve just had my initial class 1 exam in Australia and been told it has to go to the FAA for an SI. I am on oral medication, not insulin, my blood sugar level is controlled. This should be straight forward but I will engage AMAS to try and speed it up. Any advice?

Assuming your treating physician filled out the appropriate form
https://www.faa.gov/about/office_org...s%20Report.pdf
And your AME has gotten it to OKC, I'd give them a call myself, politely explain the circumstances in a folksy Aussie accent, perhaps flirt with the secretary over the phone a little, and ask them to please expedite.
That's cheaper than AMAS and generally works just as well.

The FAA allows up to 3 medicines total for non-insulin treatment of diabetes. They also have a list of what meds you can combine. The form that was given in the earlier post will be required for submission for each medical renewal. HbA1C value must be below 9.0 for certification. Yes, do call them every week after submission of the form and related documents if any.

I sent an email to the FAA personnel addressed in her email responding to her statements. My question is is it appropriate for the examiner to attach such an email to a medical report? Also, when a condition requires ruling out co-morbitities and those tests eliminate those co-morbidities should they be justification for a failure?

Normally I'm not a big fan of these services because a competent senior AME (only senior AMEs can do class 1s) SHOULD be able to handle a case like this. In this case though, unless the applicant has actually communicated with AMCD and gotten nice words and reassurance, it may be necessary.

But seriously, try to get those people on the phone and explain your situation. Once you become a person to just one of them and not just an anonymous form, things tend to go smoother, and certainly quicker. They aren't the enemy - really. But they absolutely couldn't do anything without that form except to send you and/or the AME a letter saying to send in the filled out form.

Well, not for me personally, but I've seen a number of FAs seriously affected by it.
