Now that I am on the line, it should increase a bit with perdiem, premium pay, and what I have managed to pick up from open time, which pays at second year rates.
Don't bid premium your first year. Second year pay straight>premium first year. Good luck even getting premium. This month it's been nearly impossible for a six digit guy to pull anything from open time.

It's been my observation that unless you're senior in seat, you can forget about getting premium open time awards.

Default Southwest hiring info

I haven't been able to get anything from open time - even at straight pay since I've been here. I was scrambling this week - was able to give away 3 days of reserve but nomatter what I bid I couldn't replace it with a trip. Finally gave up and picked up a 3 day out of giveaway from another domicile. Was sweating for a bit though, wondering how I was going to explain to the wife why the paycheck was 18 TFP less this month!

I picked up a 3 day out of Houston on straight open time last week. Put in my bid about 4 hours before closing and then was shocked to check my board and see it on there. A few of my classmates have also picked up open time stuff. It is hard, but not impossible.
Now premium time is another story....bids are usually 6 or 7 deep at least.

How much TFP are you new hires averaging per month?

During the summer, flying nearly, or every day. With 15 days of reserve most guys get 105-115tfp.

For guys who live in base and picked up 1 or maybe 2 2-day open time trips at about 12-15tfp per award (at 2'nd yr pay) I saw a handful of guys doing 120-130tfp total.

I'd bet for the lighter fall months the avg guy will just get his guarantee of 90tfp and no open time. For a guy in base who picks up an extra trip max is probably around 115tfp all at first yr rates.

Where are you based out of? Did you initially get the set after training?

With the seasonality that the company has built into the schedule in the last year or so, the days of knocking down 140 TFP month-in & month-out are pretty much over (unless you're really senior and don't miss the wife & kids.) We're overstaffed in the fall and after the winter holidays, and understaffed the rest of the year. Budget accordingly....

In training, they award you a base for your first month where they think you will do your IOE out of. They will also load your board for the rest of the month with trips. I had a six day IOE out of Houston and Orlando (3 and 3) then 10 days off prior to flying a four day starting tomorrow. I was bored sitting at home and figured I would give open time a shot.

This first month I am in Houston, then go to Phoenix which I got in the September vacancy, then back to Houston for October. If I stay there, I am good with it, plenty of flights in and out, if I get DAL for November, even better. I don't see a lot of movement happening for new hires after November. It is going to be all AirTran guys and they are all senior. I am digging in for a long time on bottom feeder weekend reserve. I am honestly just happy to have a job!
