It actually cracks me up when I hear Civilian and Military guys getting in a ****ing contest of who is better, Military or Civilian ( I am Civilian). I have been flying for the Airlines for over 11 years, and I would say that 98% of the guys and gals are great to fly with, and most have the same flying skills, they get you there safe and without getting you you in trouble with the FEDS. I mean if the Civilian guys want to get ****ed or mad it should be at HR not the Military guys. HR is the one that are setting the hiring standards not the Military guys. My philosophy is I can only control so much, and some stuff is out of my control. I have to live life on life's terms. Basically I update my apps as much as I can, and know that I will get a call someday. I could ***** but that will not change it, so I go home and just enjoy time with my family and friends.

How does the profit sharing work? Does it go to your retirement account or do you have the option to take cash?

Goes in the Tax-deferred profit sharing account. Mutual funds similar to a 401k.

Most of us former military guys don't have call signs. I was a T-38 instructor and a C-130 trash hauler. The Falcon and Eagle drivers play those games.

I wasn't trying to start a civ vs. military feud. There's enough of that sophomoric BS. Just trying to paint a picture of the qualifications that seem to win a classdate from both career paths. I'm sorry I even posted anything.

I agree. Time for a rumor.
I overheard the base coordinator at Houston say they are putting in 250 new pilot inboxes in the lounge.
Discuss.....

Retirement. Unless you're a Capt and you've already filled up your tax free "buckets", then the overflow comes to you in taxable cash.

So, even though our retirement pay historically lags the other airlines, last year with our profit sharing we had the best retirement pay.

There's a lot of stuff about profit sharing and retirement that is up for play in contact discussions. Don't expect it to stay the same.

Rotten deal for FOs. We have to invest more of our take home to get the match. Captains exceed the cap and their investment is returned in cash. Kind of a virtual B-fund. Those who can least afford it are penalized greatest.

And out of curiosity, how long is the minimum wait to interview again if you're not successful the first time?
