Thanks!

This would mean all pairings were 3 days or shorter. It would cost the company more money. It would increase flexibility for everyone trying to move trips. However, a commuter might rather have a 4 day option when back to back 3 days or a 3+2 option required too much hotel/crash pad cash...and maybe some other folks just prefer to get away from the boss for three nights at a time??

I retract my previous statement for total elimination, but stand by the fact that the percentage should be contractually reduced in TA2020. Take the data from now until then, find out how many 4 days ultimately require STC--boom, reduce the percentage to eliminate those orphan 4-days that no one wants!

Just realized I introduced a new acronym--STC is "split to cover" and scheduling is required to break trips down using a set of metrics. This adds positioning and depositioning deadheads to both pairings produced. Which means it costs the company just as much money (or more if premium) than just building the shorter pairing to start with!

Your trash is another guys treasure. Keep that in mind. Also, it is easyish to split a 4 day into two two day trips in elitt.
We already have a contractual limit on them. When they start getting too high, the company opens another domicile. That will more than likely happen sooner than later anyway.
STC is just a way for the company to cover open time trips by exporting them instead of paying premium for them. Often times, by the time they are done shuffling the trip around and putting deadheads on it, the straight leg value is close to or exceeds the premium value of the original trip.

This was a strange vacancy. 30 more upgrades than new hires. I would expect it to stabilize after a few more iterations. Upgrades have been slow up to this point.
