Default Piaggio Avanti Icing Question

Ok, so I've been looking in detail into one of my favorite turboprops, and I've got a couple of questions about it's anti-icing systems.

So far, I've found that it uses:

1. Electric heating for the forward wing.

2. Bleed air for the main wing

3. Pneumatic boots for the intakes.

However, it doesn't seem to have any prop protection at all. Is this because the exhaust passes through the prop?

And an even bigger question, why is the entire empennage unprotected? Surely the vertical and horizontal stabs must collect ice too!

Thanks in advance for any answers!

I'm not sure about the Piaggio specifically, but there are several aircraft the do no have ice protection on the tail; Embraer 170 for example.

I just don't get how that's feasible... surely they must pick up ice. Hmm...

Yes they pick up ice but they have been certified without protection on the tail. Do a search, there is a thread around here about it from not too long ago. The CRJ does not have any icing protection on the tail either.

Thanks, a search on "icing" turned up some interesting threads.

There's a guy in the office next to me that flies one. I'll ask him specifically when I see him next if I remember.

EDIT:Just talked to him

The exhaust stacks are the source for the prop de-ice(anti ice?), so that's covered. He has no idea why the tail isn't protected, but would prefer it be covered. Just one of those things I guess.

The 737 has no tail ice protection.

from what i remember from aerodynamics class - the airflow around certain aircraft tails doesnt allow or is in danger of picking up any significant ice due to its built in design and shaping.

that said being from and flying in the northeast id prefer tail heat on whatever i fly !
