United Airlines to make San Francisco its Boeing 747 hub

Second article discussing SFO to try and improve the 747 reliability. Dec 2012 as well. "...a move that the carrier hopes will streamline maintenance and improve the reliability of its fleet."

Looks a good chunk of the 320 new hires will be escaping the EWR hell and getting into IAH. Congrats!

So to anybody who will be starting class soon it looks like the quickest/only way out of EWR right now is on the 320 to IAH

Funny to see how junior A320 Capt is going in all bases. Especially, in the IAH base! Not many LCAL guys are running to the Capt seat or A320 and off the B737 like all the prognosticators were predicting just a few months back!! Seems like the 2 pilots groups a VERY similar no matter what anyone says!! Glad to see NEW people getting into new status and people able to move to a base of their choice!!

Just wait. They are 100+ short and this is only 35 bids. The bottom guy is 7,800 so it will end up being relatively junior.

I also noticed a number of Captains who bid into 787 FO. Probably for the better schedules and relative seniority.

I have a question for someone that has done this dog & pony show before. (Displacement/Vacancy bid) After, now being through both it looks like they do a displacement to get guys to commit where they want to go. Then they look it over and come up with a vacancy bid. But, in my case IAH 737 looking at the vacancy bid letter the Max was 590ish and the min was 540ish. So that means they probably won't displace those bottom 50 or so they'll just let them stay or go to a different position? Letting the base decrease by natural attrition. Am I understanding this correctly?

Once again, it seems the west coast is largely left out of the bidding process....I have to hope there is a master plan somewhere in the works. Guys keep retiring off the 400 and 777 with no backfills to CA.

You mean surplus. Bump-bid-bump-bid...got to be the most efficient way to do it don't you think.
