Default 777 FO vs 737 FO, QOL & pay at SFO

So, weighing the pros and cons of a 777 bottom feeder FO (reserve) to a 737 line holder FO at SFO.

Enough trips to pick up for a 777 FO on reserve at SFO to better your life?

More lucrative 737 FO lines at SFO to make up the pay difference of the 777?

Probably be living in Tahoe, so long drive.

Any constructive advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Many domestic trips that only pay M5D, leave early and arrive back late in SFO on the 777. I'll disagree with the "enough trips to pick up" part. The trips that are available to pick up aren't good trips. That said if you don't mind sitting SC and don't want to fly a whole lot on rev you could do that if you know how to play it. The 777 flying in SFO will get better by 2018 but west coast 777 has some of the worst 777 flying this year.....unless you prefer early show and late arrivals. There are better trips (CDG and HND but HND goes to the 787 soon) but if you're junior you won't see them often. The 777 will do AUK for a few months starting at the end of Oct I think but the trip will go ultra ultra senior.

The money is good on the 777 but just know what you're getting into.

Yeah, almost seems like staying narrow body for a junior guy would be better all around. Unless you can sit reserve at home, I guess.

I would not live in Tahoe and stand reserve in SFO. You done that drive when chain controls are up? You're probably safe standing reserve from home as far out as Sac.

Talk to some one that lives up there if you don't already. During a heavy winter you can be snowed in for days at a time. 2009-10 there were 20' snow banks on either side of the road and there were days at a time it snowed continuous. When the snow stops, standby for the Bay Area yuppie invasion.

I'm in Tahoe right now and FWIW Google says it'll take 3:42 to get from here (Incline Village) to SFO. That's on a clear summer Saturday morning with no weather or traffic.

Global warming has fixed that.

Seeing that the 777 isn't doing much international flying out of SFO, would sitting reserve on it be as brutal as narrow body reserve? Or could one expect more of a 'widebody reserve' experience (i.e. sitting around and not flying much)?
Wondering how similar the SFO 777 reserve experience is to 787 reserve in SFO as far as being used a lot, or not?

One of the general rules in life is never commute to reserve.

Well....unfortunately commuting to reserve is a reality of this business.

I thought reserve was a choice?

We had a chance to make reserve suck a little bit less, but we took some money instead.
