The truth probably lies somewhere in between. I did hear the 777 would be a replacement for the MD so there would probably not be any substantial net increase in airframes.

Plenty of room at DFW, CAE, RFD et al.

When did "big announcements" occur in the past? Before or after a new contract vote?

They actually have come out of nowhere, which is why I don't think an announcement is imminent.

One thing that gives this rumor a little support is that Boeing needs to sell a LOT more widebodies by the end of the year to meet their (already downward revised) 2016 widebody sales projections.

Even after the Qatar order for 10 773s, Boeing still needs to sell 777s to prevent another production rate cut prior to the 777X...a rate cut that will cause job losses and punish both Boeing's stock price and financial performance.

Those two realities, along with the fact the 747-8 orders have all but ceased, might cause Boeing to "sharpen the pencil" enough for ATL's liking.

If an order does happen though, and I think most everybody can see we need more lift than we currently have...it won't do pilots any good if such an order simply recapitalizes the fleet with newer, larger airframes.

I'll believe we're getting 777s when I'm reading the Before Start checklist.

747-8s? Yeah right. They would need to be at least 20 yrs old with 20K cycles on them first. Think Cargolux.

But the reality with ATL boxheads is a different story.

We will know for sure about any new aircraft here at UPS after we read it in the WSJ or some other news outlet.....Any info here on APC is purely a guessing game until then. The air group will be the last to know.....NURPS included.
