I worked Ramp at a Corporate FBO for about 4 years....they used to come in with NHL teams who played against the NY Islanders.

Hot Flight Attendants

But....they had an On-Board Mechanic.......which to me kinda scared me....especially since they were always workin on something. And it seemed like every post flight these mechanics were dumping quarts of oil into those tired JT-8's

I think I counted 7 INOP stickers in the cockpit one time.

The best part is the stick-on letters they put on the gear doors saying
S KY K I NG. ~Classy~ A paint job would have cost hundreds of dollars! Where do I sign up for an outfit like that?

I worked at RFD for awhile...Ryan International is based there and did some MX for Skyking...the 732's they had where JUNK. Most where ex America West birds and so many times they would take off to ferry to a mx base (mainly jet aviation in Miami which is a crap whole too) just to return 30 minutes later for other mx issues that wouldnt let them continue the flight. I know this sounds like a huge doom and gloom story about this company and there mx but id seriously evaluate your options and X skyking off the list without thinking twice.

Most, if not all, 121 Supplemental carriers have an mechanic on board for high profile, or ad hoc charters that don't go to any place that have mx. They probably also had a "Fly-Away" kit in one of bins with spare tires, a few spare parts, etc. It's perfectly normal. You wouldn't want to break down with a sports team on board and be the reason they didn't make it to the game.

Forgive my lack of experience but I think any 737/727/MD-80/DC-9 guy will tell you that if the JT-8 isn't leaking oil, it because it doesn't have any in it. Everyone has told me if the JT-8 isn't leaking, it's not running right.

7 MELs? Hell, that was a good day at Colgan.

Inop might just mean deactivated. Why would a domestic carrier need HF radio?

Very true. When I worked with Pace Airlines, they had 2 737s from KLM. Their metric altimeters were deactivated and placarded.
