Roger Cohen claims you can get lots of hotel rooms around EWR for $50.

Yes, according to the all-knowing Jedi Master of the regionals, there's an abundance of hotel rooms around Newark for $50.

However, if you don't want your kidneys cut out of you while you sleep, there are some hotels with deals. It depends on who you're with, but I think the Marriott right on the field has rooms for $80 and the Renaissance on 1 and 9 has rooms for $69. Both are excellent and I've stayed at both.

Another good one is the Best Western which is pretty close to the airport. It also has a full hot buffet breakfast for free.

I believe the Howard Johnson does 50 bucks for crew. They are not a nice hotel but not exactly a dive...a bed for the night.

The econo lodge is also 50 dollars but that is the biggest dive you will likely find.

Is that the one that advertises the FREE COMPLIMENTARY Breakfast on their vans as they pass P4? It cracks me up every time I see it!

$67 out the door at the Hilton, although that is with the XJT corporate code. Ask your hotel committee and see what they have for discounts.
