Dude....that is probably the stupidest thing I have seen on APC...and believe me I have seen many....
Umm, there is NO WAY you can compare San Diego to Pittsburgh....Seriously bro? Pittsburgh?
I will take San Diego any day of the week and seven times on sunday!
Enjoy the weather in Pittsburgh.
Take it up with Rand McNally (their Places Rated Almanac) and The Economist magazine - the folks who actually make the comparisons. I'm simply correcting the previously stated rankings. I couldn't care less where you want to live.

Must be some powerful koolaid SkW is serving up for somebody to think SAN and PIT were even in competition.
I've been a lot of places in my life, and for me, nothing quite compares to San Diego. So I live there, and yes it's expensive. How could it not be? There's more demand for things there than, well, most other places.
Santa Barbara is another beautiful place. Guess what? Mega expensive. But, as JD can probably figure out, SkW has EMB and CRJ FO's making sh*t pay living in both. Until recently, they both were bases.
For me, I can't think of anything more depressing than being paid poorly and sitting on reserve in a crappy town.

-SkW? Where did that enter the equation?
-What part of "Take it up with Rand McNally (their Places Rated Almanac) and The Economist magazine - the folks who actually make the comparisons" is confusing?
-What JD DOES understand is that there ARE regional FO's that you mention who make ****. Period. Even in expensive places. But why separate the desire/need to work for cheap wages from the desire/need (um not really) to work in an expensive base?
-Furthermore: ...if you wanna skip the BS and educate yourself on these geographical rankings - WHICH ARE DONE BY ORGANIZATIONS WHICH STUDY THESE THINGS -.. A lot of it comes down to the quality of health care, education , universities, crime, traffic, taxes, etc..
Believe me I travel as much as the next guy, and have been to both Pittsburgh and San Diego many times. Both great places as I've stated before.
This might be a shocker to the San Diego folks...but believe it or not there are many folks who are not fond of traffic, high taxes, air pollution (SoCal is the only place I've ever been where the marine layer mixes with smog to create white skies, even with the sun shining - gross!), huge amounts of panhandlers downtown, and endless illegals....
Middle America is just fine, and it has nothing to do with Lombardi trophies or Stanley Cups. Although we'll take those, as we've done ;-)
