Mountains of western North Carolina?

Beautiful. But the first shot made me do a double-take; looked like that Cessna was stuck in the side of the building!!

Matsu area of Alaska, you can tell be the birch trees turning and the angle of the sun that's already casting long winter shadows. (and from the FAA database search for N4291Q)

Cool shots, he'll be on skis in no time!

Excellent sleuthing, CRM!

There is a military low-level route (VR-58) that goes through the mountains of Georgia and North Carolina; it ends in Alabama. In the fall, it looks very much like this, including high-rent houses on lakes tucked into the valleys. The folliage and architectural styles are similar.

The kind of place I would like to live in, and where the current residents hope I stay away!

Looking at those photos jogged my memory after having lived in the 49th state for a little bit. You will notice a satellite tv dish bottom left of the first photo and bottom right of the next. Notice how flat it is aimed. Compare that to the ones in your neighborhood down in the lower 48 that are aimed at high angles. The tv satellites are in geosync orbit roughly around the equator. Live too far north or south latitude and you can't get it. Therefore, if you get much north of ANC you don't have line of sight to the satellite. That's why they are pretty much aimed at the southern horizon. Kinda neat to see astronomy at play in day to day modern life.
