Considering the gardens started out as a stone quarry, give even the brownest of thumbs hope.

It required a tremendous amount of dedication. Mrs. B. had workers hoist her up the quarry walls in a bosun's chair so she could hand-plant greenery in the crevices!

Alas, this was an evening visit, well after tea time. Fortunately, a kiosk in the Italian Garden offered some of the best gelato we have ever eaten!
