Default Hurricane Katrina

In honor of the 3rd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, I thought I'd post these pics. They're not the best quality but they're the best I've got.

I was fortunate enough to fly a relief flight from IAH to GPT one week after the storm to offer help to Expressjet employees and other airport employees. We flew a E135 loaded with MRE's, pillows, blankets, grills, charcoal, dog food, diapers, gas generators, and other staples. We also offered rides to anyone who was stuck there and wanted out.

The gratitude from the people was overwhelming. I'll never forget the last two ATC controllers. They both asked if we were a scheduled flight or relief. When we replied, they both thanked us and you could just hear the sound of comfort in their voice.

The most poignant moment was when I noticeda lot of activity across the field at a "tent city" type area with non-stop traffic going in an out. I was flying with one of the chief pilots who had been ther already so I asked him what it was. He replied, "that's the morgue."

The GPT terminal was currently being remodeled but was destroyed by the storm.

Default Gustav and New Orleans

You may or may not find this interesting.

This is a site that points you to webcams in the New Orleans area.

It's amazing how little activity is going on there, on the ground that is.

New Orleans Live Cams -15 web sites

This could get pretty hairy.
