Ah man, it ain't right. Oceana and not one F14 or A6 on the flight line. Only outside the O'club. Haven't been back there in probably 20 years (VA-42 78-80)

I thought I read somewhere that you can tell the energy state that a plane is in by where they are coming from, either the wing tip or the wing root.

Is that true?

Yes - you can definitely tell about what the airplane is doing based somewhat on the vapes - how much - where they are coming from - etc.... in certain stages of flight. Just in the landing configuration - the Hornet often streams vapes off the wingtips that might be 40' long. The humidity was only 45% today in the central valley and I was trailing vapes off the wingtips that were about 6' long. During an BFM engagement - using the vapes can be an indication of how close the fighter is to max performing (along with a few other aircraft clues too)
