Default Playing with the new lens....

My new 35mm f/1.8 just arrived and I went out to give it a try; some of the results....haven't had a chance to take it to the airport for some aviation photos, so I just went to Goldfield Ghost Town for something more interesting than the inside of my house.

I love the depth of field you can get with this lens:

A nice warm desert sunset:

This old chapel is still used for Sunday services:

Wow! That is one sharp lens.

Are you shooting Nikon or Canon?

I guess I forgot to include that detail. The lens is the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 AF-S, and I'm shooting with a Nikon body.

The lens is a super good deal, msrp is only $200.00. But since it is small and with so few moving parts, they are able to make a sturdy high quality lens for pretty cheap....though its not quite as inexpensive as some of the older 'nifty fifties'. Manual focus override, 9 (I believe) round bladed diaphragm, metal bayonet, super light weight.

If you want one you had better order now since it is in high demand; many places are out of stock or are back ordered.

I'm super impressed. I like the depth that one shot has.

I know my wife doesn't read this forum so I think I'm safe in saying that I just ordered it, ....well back-ordered it.

I ordered mine from Service Photo as they are seemingly the only place that I could find that currently has it in stock. Had no issues with them and got the lens as promised 6 days after I ordered it. They took good care with the packaging too; they wrap the lens box in large size bubble wrap, then entomb that inside of a large amount of crumpled packing paper before boxing it.

HSLD, if you ordered from a place that has it on back-order, you might want to consider cancelling, as Service Photo currently has it in stock (so their website say).

Here is the direct link on their page: Search Results : Service Photo Supply is Maryland's source for digital cameras and professional imaging supplies

Thanks for that link. I'm going to stop by the local camera shop today to see if they have it. If not, I'll order it from that site. At that price, you can't go wrong!

And great photos, btw.

You live in the most beautiful part of the United States I try to visit that ghost town every time I get out to AZ (normally on the way up to Tortilla Flat - could I place a request for some pictures from there?!! ). Beautiful shots, especially the one of the ghost town.
