Default Ellington Airport Airshow

A few photos that I snapped with the cell phone around the static line on Friday afternoon. Sorry about the lighting - it was a little cloudy and the sun was going down.

Some of the USMC representation

Here is a nose shot of one of the NASA Gulfstream aircraft. They use these to train the shuttle pilots in the approach to landing phase. The left seat is configured just like a Shuttle and the Shuttle pilots are in full garb while the other NASA pilot sits in the right seat with a *regular* set of controls and basically acts as the safety pilot (This information was told to me by another NASA pilot who happens to be a former squadronmate of mine. Man...you never know who you are going to run into at airshows! I didn't get to look inside the plane this time around.)

It was good to meet you on Saturday. Did you get to leave in time or did you have to stop on the way back Sunday? I was gonna come back over when we left but you were perched on top of your ride so I didn't want to drag you down. We bolted half way through the Blues to beat the traffic.

Hey ryguy -

Nice to meet you too! We got out of there just 10 minutes late on Sunday afternoon. With a little extra speed and a quick turn at Cutter in ABQ, we were able to get back about 30 mins earlier than planned. I hope you enjoyed the show and keep in touch.

PS - I should have watched more of the show perched UNDER the wing than on top. I'm paying a price for that position!
