Here's the problem. ATI recently laid off 8 former ABX guys that were involved in the two year lock. These pilots according to both the contract and the side letter that provided their recall to ATI are now removed from the lock and free to be recalled to ABX. All of them have indicate a desire to return (better than unemployment).

Management is using this as bargaining power. They are holding these crewmembers hostage for the ransom of contract relief in the form of an LOA that would extend the length of trips to Asia and extend the contractual deadhead limits. They have clearly indicated that if they get their LOA they will recall these pilots that desire recall.

Needless to say the Union is fighting this vigorously as the company is in clear violation of the contract. It would be extremely unwise to accept a job to ABX until this is resolved. You would be accepting a position that belongs to a furloughed ABX pilot who is fighting for his right to return to employment. Needless to say there would be quite a few folks on the line that wouldn't think highly of new hires replacing these pilots. Its just bad karma at the moment.

There is suppose to be an official answer from the company this week on whether these furloughed pilots will be allowed to return to ABX or whether they will be illegally held from employment in favor of "cheaper" new hires.

Stay tuned...

BTW...If this furlough mess gets resolved, ABX could be a great place to work. If not - it aint' gonna be pretty for a while.
Gosh, why doesn't anything in this business ever operate "normally"? So, does that mean they're only looking to hire 8 new people to "replace" those 8 or are they looking to hire some in addition to those 8?
